SQL Server Setup & Upgrade
sql 2005 vista ultimate disc 2 trouble workstation components
Question:
I am having trouble installing disc number 2 on sql standard 2005( I installed disc one) I get the message my workstation components are already installed etc.It will not allow me to go any further It seem like everything installed Here is my summary.... I unistalled vs 2 express 2005---I never used it......
Here is my list on my vista ultimate computer sql server business intelligence, sql server management studio, analysis services installed configuration tools documentation pefmorance tools Did I need to install disc 2 instead of disc 1?
one I am using vista Please help ? I tried opening business intelligence studio it says it has compability issues

Answer1:
The following thread ms post -sql server management tools not installed may be the answer to my question
It seems like there is a bug in sql server express -If sql server tools are installed there is no way to
unistall them in using add/delete option.( I am trying to install sql standard 2005) You must manually delete them. This posts describes
the procedure. I wish microsoft had posted this in their latest update to sql server....
I welcome any comment on this......Thank you......

Hi,
I couldn't see any failed component in the above log!!. If you are trying to install client tools, then insert disc 2, browse to Tools\Setup folder and then execute Sqlrun_tools.msi file to install workstation components!!

sorry I did not get back to you sooner, I tried running sql using as an administrator
function It did not allow me to load workstation components, I also
tried to run sqlrun_msi 2005 standard however it only always me to unistall sql 2005.
Should I try to run this from command prompt will this make a difference-I am still not able to load
workstation components!!!!! help thanks...... I previously unistalled sql express however I still
wonder if sql tools on my system......

I googled the answer to this problem was actually simple. In sqlexe disc 2 (dont use )it simply has problem installing
sql workstation components. I had to click change programs in control panel then choose sql then
workstation components and this seemed to do the trick I installed disc sql_tools msi from
tools menu (even Installed in vista) everything seemed to install correctly!!!!!! I googled this installing sql 2005 standard from channel 9 . Now to install sql 2005 sp2 on monday!!!! Thanks on advice on installing sql sp2 I was planning to do
that.......Problem solved........
