.NET Framework Setup Update failed with .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806) A...
Question:

I have downloaded by "Windows Update" Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 and Net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1, but they have failed.

I have "Windows XP Home Edition" and also I am using "Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition".

I also verified that now, always I open Visual Basic 2005 it gives me following error:

"Package Load Failure

Package 'Windows Forms Designer Package' has failed to load properly ( GUID = {7494682B-37A0-11D2-A273-00C04F8EF4FF} ). Please contact package vendor for assistance. Application restart is recomended, due to possible environment corruption. Would you like to disable loading this package in the future? You may use 'vbexpress /resetskippkgs' to re-enable package loading."

That dialog box offers two choices: "yes" or "no".

I had chosen "no", then same dialog box appears continually without be clicking again.

I am not sure if that situation has some kind of relation with above updates failed.

Now what can I do?

How can I verify if files are already in my computer, to execute again updates above mentioned?

Answer1:

Anybody knows how to execute " 'vbexpress /resetskippkgs' to re-enable package loading."???

Is a file or a command to execute with MS-DOS?

How should I use it?

Answer2:

Today I solved all problems above mentioned.

Here is how I did it:

1) I chose second button to get personalized updates (inside Windows Update home page) and in the left side of that page, I chose "optional" software.

2) Then, I chose and executed installation of ".Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1" and, when it finished, I chose inside same page, to execute installation of "Net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1".

Now I can open VB2005 without that strange GUID error !

IMPORTANT: Don´t use your computer while updates are doing !

I hope this helps anybody with same kind of problems.

Answer3:

Thank you VisualBasicJC ... sequencing the updates worked perfectly.   I've been having the same issue since the updates came out.  Went researching and some of the suggestions ... install, reinstall, registry edits ... this though is simple.   MS should have done this for us (sequenced the update) IMHO.   Thanks again for saving me hours of unnecessary toil

Answer4:
I need the same answer. I cant update KB110806

Answer5:

I have the same problem.... can't update KB11806

After a short tme, it just says Update Failed.

What can I do??

Do I need this update (I have XP Pro)?

I can't stop MS from continously trying (and failing) to update.... It won't "go away".....

Answer6:
I'm having the same problem. Every since i did a system restore. It trys to update Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806)

now what do i do?

Answer7:

I know it's been a few weeks since this was posted, but I'm having problems installing .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 as well.  I couldn't find the option to choose executed installation on the side bar, does anyone have any suggestions for me?  It's causing my wireless keyboard and mouse software, as well as my office software to have issues...

Gee, what a surprise. Another botched update by MS.

I'm having the same problem. The service packs for .Net 2 and 3 fail to be installed repeatedly. Apple is looking more and more appealing with every passing day. MS really needs to get it together.

Have you followed all steps I mentioned above??

My "Windows Update" homepage is portuguese. But I think with following images, it will be easy to you see where are all steps I executed.

I wrote above: "1) I chose second button to get personalized updates (inside Windows Update home page) and

So, you should do something similar to following images:

VBimage1.JPG (72.62 KB)

   VBimage2.JPG (42.99 KB)

You will note that when it starts updating, it will appear not be do nothing and, suddenly (after several long minutes), it will move progress bar about update progress. It will stop again by other long minutes and, after several long minutes, it will repeat this progress, stop, continue it since last stop of progress and other stop until it finish to complete update.

That is the reason why I recomended to not use your computer while updating (that means no mouse movement or screensaver working)

Sorry to place images to download but I couldn´t post images here.

Answer11:

Thanks for the update, but after trying all of these suggestions, I went another route.  I reformatted my hard drive.  I do that every two years or so, and wasn't scheduled to do this for another year, but after I had found someone had locked me out of my own administrative account, I knew it had to be done.  Any problems I was having before that have now been eliminated, so it's nothing that a clean version of XP Pro won't fix!  Anyone else having problems, I highly suggest saving your files, and running a clean reinstall of XP.  Total destructive reformatting is recommended.

That other guy Visual Basic I tried his technique and uh it did not work!!Answer13:

Too bad I didn't answer your post earlier and you had to reformat your hard drive, that was going to be my next step until I got it to work for me as I described.

Answer14:

No big deal, there's nothing of substancial sugnificance on this pc anyway...besides, after erroring out, I looked into my system, and someone had taken over my machine as a bot so it was best that I had reformatted it.  It's got a clean registry, and everything's working now.  I've learned my lesson, and no longer will my machine be so easy to corrupt.  This time, I've enabled every security feature I could find for XP Pro.  I have also installed some extra software that let's me limit the time that my computer is online.  I set my antivirus to update, and scan at about 10 pm, and by midnight, the network card goes offline until 8am.  These are the hours that were getting the most traffic from my computer, as these were the hours it was being used...kind of scary, but salright now!  I'm making a copy of your instructions, and the link just in case the .NET Framework goes bonkers again.  Thanks for all your help!

P.S. EVIL!
