Again: Registering

by the3factory 3/26/2008 6:48:00 PM
Question:

Sorry, I have to ask, must this version of Visual Studio be registered:

I downloaded the DVD image, burnt a disk, and installed from this disk.

Microsoft says the following:

"If you need to install and use an Express Edition on a computer that is not connected to the Internet, you will need to create an installation DVD using the DVD ISO file that is available on the Express site. The installation DVD you create will then allow you to install an Express Edition on a computer that is not connected to the Internet, and that Express Edition will not require registration key for continued usage."

This is somehow ambiguous.

Yes, I used this DVD ISO file. But they also say "install... on a computer that is not connected to the internet".

So, either one NEVER nedds to register, when using this DVD.

Or one doesn't need register, when using this DVD AND having no internet access (but my computer does have, of course). I could imagine, that the expiration period is activated the first time the computer sees an internet connection.

What is true?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Lars2,

As far as I know, in order to install the Visual Studio Express 2008 successfully, you should get a registration key, and a Windows Live ID is required for registration and activation. Creating a Windows Live ID account is easy and free. Please visit
